What is Hearing Loss?
Hearing Loss is a condition no one can physically touch or feel, happens slowly over time, and can leave you at an increased risk for developing other serious health issues. There are many factors that contribute to a Hearing Loss like, noise exposure or diabetes, but Hearing Loss is most often a result of aging. The most common cause of Hearing Loss in adults is noise and aging. Hearing Loss is categorized as: Mild, Moderate, Severe, & Profound. Luckily the most common form of Hearing Loss is Mild, which is treatable!

  • Hearing Loss is the third most common physical condition after Arthritis and Heart Disease
  • About 20% of Americans, 48 million, have Hearing Loss

The Risks of Untreated Hearing Loss
Why Should I Be Concerned About Hearing Loss?

Research shows us that an Untreated Hearing Loss, even when mild, can increase a person’s risk of falling or having a balance disorder, as well as decreases overall brain and cognitive health, potentially leading to a higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Other risks associated with an Untreated Hearing Loss include:

  • Can lead to Social Isolation, Depression, and Cognitive Decline
  • For every 10 decibels of Hearing Loss, there is a significant increase in the person’s Risk of Falling
  • Severe Tinnitus (rining in the ears) may develop as a result of Untreated Hearing Loss and can even be more debilitating than just a Hearing Loss by itself.
  • Untreated Hearing Loss can cause Brain Atrophy due to a lack of stimulation to the hearing organs
  • Untreated Hearing Loss leads to 5% Brain Atrophy and a 30% increased Risk of Dementia
  • In addition to Dementia, Untreated Hearing Loss can laed to other severe, degenerative Brain Health issues
